CFD Service Day 2026

2026 is an exciting year for us here at CFD, because it marks a huge milestone for us as a team and a business- our TEN year anniversary. And we wanted to kick off this year by taking a day all together to give back to the community that has given us so much over the last decade.

A full DECADE in business- we can hardly believe it. So much growth and change has happened for us as a business over the last ten years. But, one thing that has not changed is the love and support we have felt from the the the community around us. All of us on the team are deeply rooted in Chapel Hill, Durham, and the surrounding areas- it’s our livelihood, where we raise our families, and where we have made our homes. And, it’s where we have had the privilege to complete a decade of design work creating meaningful homes for our clients and their own families.

So at this moment especially, as we mark 10 years, it felt important for us to set aside some dedicated time to come together and give back. Many of us on the team have backgrounds in non-profit work and personal involvement in local organizations, and service work is something close to our hearts. Monday morning, we gathered with many other community members at an event hosted by the Pittsboro Rotary Club to make care packages for local seniors in need. The Pittsboro Rotary Club is an incredible group of people who invest in service to the community. We have to give a shout out to Shari, a Rotary Club leader and friend of ours from Woman of Achievement! They all made us feel super welcome at this event. It was held at Northwood High School, in partnership with their Interact Club- an inspiring group of young leaders engaged in finding opportunities to serve the community.

We spent the morning working on making blankets, care packages, and handwritten cards to be hand delivered to seniors in need this week. As you can imagine, our team was all over these blankets (textile crafting for a good cause? You could not keep us away!) Ryan quickly emerged as the technical leader on this endeavor when she found her massive professional carpet scissors in her Installation tool kit. Ryan is forever the best person to have around for problem solving (our clients would concur!).

In addition to the full team (yes! ALL of us were in one place!) we brought our families along. The Junior CFD members worked so hard and had the best time making blankets and drawing cards some very sweet cards.

Y’all, it’s KIM! (On the left) Our amazing financial manager. She’s in and out of the studio and moves quite fast (it’s hard to get a picture!) but she brought her beautiful family for our service day. Seen here next to Krista (right), our Ops genius and secret angel baker behind those Christmas treats ;)

Hard work on the cards, which were tucked into each care package.

All in all, 70+ full care packages were completed during the course of the morning. They were transported out to be delivered to seniors in the community via the Meals on Wheels Route this week. Along with their meals, they will get some extra warmth, care, and hopefully a bit of cheer too. A huge thank you to The Pittsboro Rotary Club, Northwood High School Interact Club, and all of the volunteers for including us in this event. We were so happy to be there.

After a very inspiring morning, in the afternoon, we travelled to the the Brumley Nature Preserve in Chapel Hill to work with the Triangle Land Conservancy. We grabbed the shovels and gloves and got to work weeding out invasive species and planting new native foliage.

Fun fact: CFD Ryan is our amazing installation wizard and Jill-of-all-trades, but she’s also a Horticulturalist by trade. Our extensive plant collection in the studio is thanks to her green thumb! We are a team of hikers, runners, mountain bikers, avid gardeners, and general outdoor enthusiasts in our personal lives, and sustainability is also such an important part of our work in the design world. We were so thankful to spend this time supporting the Triangle Land Conservancy to nurture public green space that will hopefully be enjoyed by our community for generations to come.

We are so thankful for this community. The Triangle is an incredible place, and we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the people here who have supported our business over the years. We’re fortunate to make this our home base and place of belonging, and we look forward to many more years of giving back.

A huge thank you to both the Pittsboro Rotary Club and the Triangle Land Conservancy for having us. If you’re also looking for a way to get involved, they are wonderful organizations and both have a variety of family-friendly opportunities to get involved throughout the year.
