Bedroom in Blush - A Lush Primary Bedroom Retreat
Calm and relaxing but packed with eye-catching details, this luxurious bedroom in blush and blue shows that a well-designed room can deliver big visual interest while still bringing a restful, retreat-like space. Nestled in a fabulous Chapel Hill townhome, this primary bedroom design is filled with luxe fabrics, gorgeous wallpaper, a light-filled sitting area, and an incredible custom-designed bed.
One of our favorite things to design? A luxurious primary bedroom that feels like a getaway, an oasis, and a little bit like a world of its own. If you’ve been following along, you know we’ve been sharing about this beautiful Chapel Hill home design- you can read more about it here and here! . The design inspiration for this beautiful primary bedroom centered around our client's love of Art Deco architecture and design details and infusions of abundant, rich, beautiful color.
Let’s start with THIS BED(!). Y’all, it’s hard to even do it justice here. But, trust us to say that words can’t truly get across how incredible this piece is in the room. The tall, custom-upholstered headboard anchors the space and provides the central focal point of this rich room design. And, although soft in color, the bed is such a striking presence in the space. By drawing your eye immediately as you enter, this piece allows all the other design details to radiate from this central point.
Centered around the custom-designed bed, the room design is filled with layered patterns and a whoooole lot of beautiful texture- the twin stools at the foot of the bed, the plush rug, and custom bed linens and custom drapery give the room a quiet, plush dimension. Strategic design came into play to create a truly relaxing space while ALSO serving up satisfying and dynamic visual interest in the details. You’ll remember the hand-blocked wallpaper from the first-floor powder room. The primary bedroom was another design moment where we layered in a beautiful, detailed wallpaper pattern that echoes the Art Deco undertone woven throughout the full home design.
A nook for reading, relaxing, and chatting? Absolutely. Over years of creating home designs, we’ve found that carving out a dedicated seating nook in the primary bedroom is such a worthwhile addition to the space. It’s a place to connect, wind-down, or just a soft landing spot for transitioning out of the busyness of the day. In this room, the bank of triple windows was the ideal place to create a little extra space to be enjoyed, and also a way we could make the most of the beautiful natural light that flows in on this side . Custom linen curtain panels with lovely hand-appliqued trim frame the nook, and echo the blush tones of the bed. Custom designed twin swivels in a lustrous blue catch the sunlight, and are a grounding contrast to all the surrounding warm hues. We love how it all comes together to make a space that feels so relaxing, but vibrant and rich in color and pattern, all at the same time.

Without a doubt, the absolute GEM of this room is right here- this incredible antique secretary. A beautiful heirloom piece that has been handed down in the family, it carries with it a lot of love and a lot of memories. For us as a design team, there’s no greater privilege than getting to tell our clients’ stories through the artistry of design. Homes are such personal, meaningful spaces- and their design should be, too. And for many of our clients, building a home for the life and future they dream of also includes weaving in the important parts of their history, as individuals and as a family. One of our greatest joys in this project was bringing in this piece as a cornerstone of their unique design.
