Elevated Powder Room Renovation
There is something so satisfying about a fresh and beautiful powder room renovation. Even as a smaller space, the powder room sees a lot of traffic, and as such, it’s often one of the most fun and rewarding transformations we can make in a home. As a frequented space for both homeowners and guests, the impact of great design in an elevated powder room goes far. Join us as we bring you in for a look at this powder room redesign in a beautiful Chapel Hill townhome.
If you’ve been following along with us, you may have seen that we’re sharing our custom interior design of a classic Chapel Hill townhome. We shared the sitting room transformation here! Color was a key player for this large-scale multi-room design and renovation. These clients have FABULOUS taste, and over the course of their lives have created their own collection of beautiful and colorful custom pottery, handmade from all over the world. We played on this rich color palette throughout the entire home design, allowing the whole home to flow beautifully and seamlessly from room to room.
But let’s dig into the powder room design. This room sits directly across the entryway from the sitting room you see above. We wanted the sitting room to remain the star of the show as you enter the home, so the powder room took on a more understated and complementary color tone. But, we can still find plenty of ways to ramp up visual interest for a look and feel that is still stunning- delivering that sense of quiet (read: sophisticated) luxury that our clients have come to expect. Here’s a before image of the room:
We brought in a gorgeous, detailed wallpaper that adds just the right amount of drama. This home is also filled with so many tasteful art deco touches, and we love the way this pattern echoes that era in such a beautiful, classic way.
While the hand-blocked wallpaper design is so stunning that it almost steals the show, the mirror flush with art deco details paired with classic sconces are just unique enough to also draw your eye. Throughout the home, we brought in meaningful family items and intentionally wove them into the full design concept throughout. For this powder room, the two European art pieces you see to the left were special to this family. We had them custom-framed onto a black velvet mat and set in a luxe frame, where they could become a meaningful part of this space. The gorgeous, jewel-toned peacock blue hue (which you also saw in the sitting room) was the perfect way to create a wonderfully unexpected backdrop for these art pieces, as well as the custom drapery on the window. The ceiling is also painted in this same hue, for a pop of color that brings this room into the vibrant design story of this home.
The end result of this powder room glow-up had us all in the feels, y’all. It’s now such a sweet space that brings so much to the full home design. We love doing a deep dive and discovering all the design details, influences, stories, and nuances that make our clients feel happiest in their home. By bringing all of those things into the design, we can craft visionary spaces that carry so much intention and beauty. We are always true fans of an elevated powder room! A small but thoughtfully designed, luxurious and beautiful powder room can still pack in so many unique design details, becoming a space that elevates the entire home.
