Deep blue walls, inlaid wood ceiling, and plush inset carpeting define this room as a cozy, comfortable space: full of visual interest and truly designed for real family living. Mixing new and heirloom pieces, highlighting the soaring ceilings and creating a space that feels both airy and intimate, this became on of our favorite rooms within this custom home. Read on to take a tour of this ASID Platinum Award-Winning Design, featured this month in Designers Today Magazine.
This quiet corner room features a wall of oversized windows, catching sunlight throughout the day. The deep blue-teal wall color is a design thread that’s woven through the full home design. In this room, the rich hue gives dimension to the custom wainscoting, and creates a cozy, intimate setting within the large space.
Designed with Family in Mind
If you know us, you know that our clients are the reason we do what we do, and this room was no exception. We love to create spaces that allow our clients to relax at home in a way that brings more joy and ease to the daily rhythm of their lives. The inspiration for this home design for this home centered around family. Specifically, creating spaces where their adult children and their grandkids could visit easily and comfortably, with ample space to spend time together and connect. This den/family room was crafted to be just such a room; a place where the full family could relax, rest, gather for movie night, reading, or family game night. We loved crafting a space where multiple generations could enjoy each other, and this quickly became one of our favorite rooms in the home.

Modern Luxury, Vintage Soul
This room was inspired by our clients’ love of curated luxury, crafted by mixing old and new pieces. We reimagined our clients’ twin armchairs with fresh upholstery and pillows. We love the contrast of the modern fabric paired with a traditional roll-arm. we paired them with a new piece; a plush custom corner sectional fit to hold the whole family.
The home’s modern style is filled with glimmers of vintage soul, a nod to their family history and the journey that led them to being able to create their dream home. An antique family heirloom desk found it’s home in this space, adjacent to a hidden door leading to a full ensuite bathroom.
The Hidden Ensuite
We designed this family den to have an ensuite bathroom at the ready, equipped for anything that visiting family might need. To keep the rich blue walls continuous, we created a hidden panel door that leads to the ensuite. You can also access the bathroom directly from the hallway, so this additional door from the den is subtly out of sight when not needed.
A warm terracotta color in the ensuite gives a satisfying contrast to the cooler deep blue walls of the den. Asymmetrical lighting and a fun abstract patterned wall covering give this space lots of visual interest, along with a touch of the unexpected.
A favorite feature of this ensuite bathroom is the “hidden shower”. When closed, these doors give the appearance of a closet or cabinet, transforming the room into an additional main level powder bath. Open, they lead right into a luxurious marble-tiled shower.

We put our design heart and soul into every part of this home, but this cozy family den was a particular joy to create. It’s a space that is all about our clients’ love for family. It feels like a seamless extension of who they are, a place of belonging and connection; a fully complete, collected space. Receiving the ASID Platinum award for Design Excellence for this home was an honor for our entire team. And seeing it on the Designers Today cover within the same month? We have been overjoyed to see this design resonating with so many.
