Beautiful Tile | A Colorful Poolside Bathroom

This warm and colorful poolside bathroom features beautiful custom floor tile, wrap-around tile wainscoting, a warm color palette and both indoor and outdoor access. Created for a Chapel Hill family who loves outdoor living, this well-equipped and beautifully polished indoor/outdoor bathroom was a seamless addition to their existing home, and the perfect finishing touch to their outdoor space.

From The Top

But first, we'll back up just a tad, and give you a quick overview of the concept of the space.  This family loves (LOVES!) to enjoy their outdoor space.  It's been a gathering spot for mealtime, watching the Tarheels on TV, and the center of the family ping-pong rivalry.  They also enjoy swimming in their backyard pool. When we started talking with them about their vision for their home, an additional bathroom that would be easily accessible from the outdoor area and pool was high on the list. When the dream of a hot tub also started to surface- well, we could not WAIT to get creative and make this space something beautiful, functional, and perfect for them.

Family (Design) Dynamics

Strategic layout allowed us to create easy access to all areas. Moving between the pool, hot tub, indoors, the pool house bathroom and the indoors flows seamlessly.

For this home addition, transition was the key.  Specifically, we asked the question: how could we make the transition from indoor to outdoor living easy, comfortable, and functional- while keeping it beautiful and unique, as well as perfectly in harmony with the full home design? It sounds like a lot of moving pieces (and it is), but we love to create design solutions just like this one. Family life is busy and dynamic, and a well-designed home can support it all.

The Warm Color Effect

Warm, light color was key to making this bathroom feel comfortable. This home is full of rich blues and greens and pops of bright corals, and we echoed that color story in this bathroom space. A soft-toned wall color and this gorgeous wrap-around wall tile wainscoting create a feeling of clean, inviting warmth (perfect for when you’re coming in from the pool). We love the color play in this space as well: a bold blue door, soft wall color, and the detailed custom floor tile to bring it all together.

Tiled to Perfection

Speaking of the floor tile, we can’t get enough of this one. Warm terracotta and blues are perfect for poolside, while still feeling polished, elevated, and aligned with the rest of the home. This unique floral pattern echoes the fun but sophisticated feel of the rest of the home.
